Abdominal Aesthetic Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

Abdominoplasty surgery is a surgical procedure to correct excess fat and sagging skin in the abdominal area. This surgery is a fairly common procedure for women who have undergone sudden weight gain or pregnancy. During pregnancy or weight gain, the abdominal wall in the muscles tends to separate. Abdominoplasty surgery helps to repair and tighten the walls.

Abdominoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. After finding an expert surgeon, you can make an interview. After meeting with you and learning about your expectations, your surgeon will decide which surgery is best for you. The surgeon first makes an incision in the lower abdomen, along the bikini line or on the pubis. After this incision, excess fat tissue is removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Excess skin is cut away and the remaining skin is pulled underneath. In the final step, these incisions are closed with sutures. The result is a flatter, firmer and more attractive abdominal profile. In the postoperative period, it is important that the patient rests and recovers properly. Medications should be taken in accordance with the doctor's instructions and the doctor's recommendations should be followed.

Abdominoplasty includes various methods used to reshape one's abdomen into a desired shape and remove sagging skin. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) is the most common surgical option in this field. This procedure involves removing excess fat tissue, tightening the muscles and repositioning sagging skin.  A mini tummy tuck is considered a less invasive option and targets only the lower abdomen. Liposuction is used to reduce fat in the abdominal area through fat suction.

Non-surgical options include cold lipolysis and radiofrequency (RF) treatments, which target fat cells and provide tightening. Abdominoplasty methods are recommended and selected by the doctor depending on the individual's goals, skin texture and surgical history. Each has different advantages and requires a personalized approach.

Before undergoing tummy tuck surgery, you should consult a plastic surgeon to determine whether surgery is a suitable option for you.  Your doctor will evaluate your health history and order the necessary tests. Your doctor will review the medications you are taking and may recommend that you stop or change some medications before surgery. Smoking and alcohol can negatively affect the results of surgery. Therefore, we recommend that you stop these habits at least a few weeks before surgery. A few days before the surgery, you can switch to a diet recommended by your doctor. There are also special precautions you should take before having tummy tuck surgery. First, determine your target weight. Avoid birth control pills for about 4-6 weeks before the surgery. Take the necessary cleaning measures to keep the area clean before the surgery. Do not shave or wax the operated area 7 days before surgery.

You should drink plenty of water to facilitate the postoperative period. Preparation for tummy tuck surgery is a serious step and can affect the results of the surgery. You should try to follow your doctor's recommendations meticulously. If you want t

Tummy tuck surgery can take up to 3-3.5 hours. The first few hours after surgery are usually spent in the hospital. You wake up after the anesthesia wears off. During this period, the abdomen is covered with bandages and stitches. You may feel pain and discomfort in the first phase. Painkillers and antibiotics are usually prescribed to relieve the pain.  Swelling and bruising are normal in the postoperative period. These decrease over time. Heavy physical activity should be avoided for the first few weeks. You can slowly return to daily activities over the period recommended by your doctor. Full recovery may take several months. However, the results are usually evident with the abdomen looking flatter and firmer. The long-term results of tummy tuck surgery depend on the patient carefully maintaining their lifestyle after surgery. A healthy diet and regular exercise will help you maintain the results after surgery.

Like any surgical procedure, abdominoplasty has potential risks and complications. Although Medaway patients are generally satisfied with the procedure, there are potential risks that may arise. As with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection after abdominoplasty. It is therefore very important to keep the surgical field in hygienic conditions. Bleeding may occur during or after surgery. The scarring after abdominoplasty may vary from person to person. Some patients tend to develop more prominent scars. Because general anesthesia is used, there are risks associated with anesthesia, but modern anesthesia techniques are usually safe.

There is a risk of skin necrosis (tissue death) in some patients after surgery. This usually occurs at the suture line. But so far our patients have not encountered this problem. There may be temporary sensory loss in the abdomen after surgery. This usually improves over time, but can rarely be permanent. After prolonged immobility or bed rest, there may be a risk of blood clots (thrombosis) or clots thrown into the lungs (embolism). Measures to promote circulation are taken to reduce this risk.

Before and after abdominoplasty, you should discuss the risks and complications in detail with your doctor and assess whether the procedure is suitable for you. It is also important to choose a specialist surgeon to perform the surgery, as an experienced doctor can help minimize the risks.
