Tummy tuck surgery can take up to 3-3.5 hours. The first few hours after surgery are usually spent in the hospital. You wake up after the anesthesia wears off. During this period, the abdomen is covered with bandages and stitches. You may feel pain and discomfort in the first phase. There is a risk of skin necrosis (tissue death) in some patients after surgery. This usually occurs at the suture line. But so far our patients have not encountered this problem. There may be temporary sensory loss in the abdomen after surgery. This usually improves over time, but can rarely be permanent. After prolonged immobility or bed rest, there may be a risk of blood clots (thrombosis) or clots thrown into the lungs (embolism). Measures to promote circulation are taken to reduce this risk.
